WASHINGTON - The 13th annual Worthington Classic came to a close here Saturday evening in the Field House with Christopher Newport University celebrating a perfect 4-0 weekend. The Captains defeated Marymount (Va.) University, 3-1, in the women's volleyball championship match on Court 1.
Gallaudet University was swept in its two matches it played on Saturday. The Bison (4-16) lost 3-0 to Marymount (Va.) University; 7-25, 21-25, 13-25, to complete pool play with a 1-2 record.
Junior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) finished with eight kills and 10 digs in the loss to the Saints (8-8).
The Bison turned around and faced The Catholic University of America in the 5th/6th place match. GU fell 16-25, 18-25, 23-25 in straight sets to the Cardinals (12-8). Lewis, once again, led Gallaudet with 13 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Freshman Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) passed out 27 assists while sophomore Mia Upchurch (Austin, Texas) added 13 digs.
Lewis was named to the all-tournament team as Gallaudet's representative.
