GU moves up the NEAC women's volleyball standings with two wins

LANCASTER, Pa. - It was a big day for the Gallaudet University women's volleyball team here Saturday at Lancaster Bible College as the Bison picked up two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) wins against SUNY Poly, 3-0, and SUNY Cobleskill, 3-1.

Gallaudet (7-20, 4-2 NEAC) moves up the conference standings with the two wins and is now in a four-way tie for third place.

The Bison swept the SUNY Poly Wildcats, 25-21, 27-25, 25-18, on Saturday morning and turned around and defeated the Fighting Tigers in the afternoon in four sets, 26-28, 25-10, 25-14, 25-23.

Junior outside hitter Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison against the Wildcats with 13 kills, 11 digs and four service aces. Freshman setter Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) passed out 31 assists and made 10 digs for a double-double.

Lewis paced Gallaudet against SUNY Cobleskill with 17 kills, eight digs, four aces, three blocks (one solo). Freshman middle hitter Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) was GU's next top hitter with nine kills. Bingham passed out 35 assists and made nine digs. Freshman Isabella Rodriguez (Marietta, Ga.) served up a season best five aces to lead the Bison service game. Junior Brynn Schmidt (Bozeman, Mont.) led Gallaudet up front with five blocks (two solo).

Gallaudet next plays Hood College (1-21) in Frederick, Md., on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
