Mustangs get past Bison in home dual meet

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving program made the quick turnaround and hosted Stevenson University here Saturday afternoon in the Field House pool. The Bison fell to the Mustangs, 143-69.

Gallaudet (1-6) won two of the 14 events against Stevenson (4-4) as the Bison dominated the long endurance events.

Junior Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) took first place in the 500-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in six minutes and 15.69 seconds. She finished second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.97. Miller-Notestone was just edged out by Stevenson's Bailey Hurt (1:08.13).

Senior Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) won the 1,000-yard freestyle as she clocked in just over 14 minutes (14:00.25).

The Mustangs were led by Jules Burnett, who won three individual events and was a member of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team (2:02.85).


  • Junior Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.) placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (3:12.08)
  • Sophomore Anna Gano (Lewiston, Idaho) finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:08.55)
  • Kiefer finished third in the 200-yard IM (3:06.21)
  • Monroe finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:29.68)
  • Gano was third in the 200-yard breaststroke with a new personal best time (4:29.88)
  • Sophomore Alyssa Castillo (Fresno, Calif.) finished third in the 200-yard freestyle with a personal best time of 3:44.44
  • Freshman Breanna Power (Milton, Ontario) was third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:44.10)
  • Power set a new personal best time in the 200-yard freestyle (3:47.40) as she placed fourth
  • Miller-Notestone placed fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:29.23)
  • Gano touched the wall in 44.86 seconds to place fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, a new personal best
  • Castillo was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (2:19.20)
  • GU's 400-yard freestyle relay squad of Monroe, Power, Castillo and Gano took second (6:55.09)
