WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's swimming team dropped its home opener 201-40 to Bridgewater (Va.) College on Saturday afternoon in the Field House pool. The Bison wore special pink swim caps to show support for breast cancer awareness during the meet. The Eagles (2-0) won all 14 events over the Bison (0-2), who took second in two events.
Junior Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of six minutes, 2.62 seconds. She had two third-place finishes in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events with times of 1:03.63 and 2:17.27, respectively.
Junior Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 13:56.37. She took third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time 1:21.28.
Freshman Kari McMinn (Belleville, Ontario) placed third out of four in the 50-yard backstroke with time 38.77 seconds.
Senior Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) finished in third place in the 100-yard IM (1:23.70).
Gallaudet's 200-yard medley relay team of Miller-Notestone, Kiefer, Monroe and McMinn placed third with a time of 2:29.13 to begin the meet.
BISON TRACKS
- Sophomore Alyssa Castillo (Fresno, Calif.) placed third in the 50-yard butterfly (59.95)
- Monroe finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:26.31)
- Kiefer was fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:22.81) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:36.97)
- Freshman Anna Gano (Lewiston, Idaho) placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (46.31) and 50-yard breaststroke (57.62)
- McMinn was fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:34.18)
