Miller-Notestone picks up another first-place finish on final night of NEAC championships

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving program finished fifth overall at the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships hosted by Cazenovia College at the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex. The Bison completed the three-day championship here Sunday night and tallied 213 team points.

The host Wildcats won a fifth straight conference championship with 595 points. Wells College (476) was a distant second followed by Cedar Crest College (470), SUNY Cobleskill (229) and the Bison.

Junior Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:23.41.

Junior Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly as she touched the wall in 3:01.55.

Senior Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) finished fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 23:24.03. 

GU's 400-yard medley relay team of Miller-Notestone, Kiefer, Monroe and sophomore Alyssa Castillo (Fresno, Calif.) took fifth (5:08.53).


  • Kiefer was sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke (3:27.91)
  • Freshman Breanna Power (Milton, Ontario) was eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:35.09)
  • Castillo finished 12th in the 100-yard IM (1:53.20)
  • The NEAC recognized all senior swimmers on Sunday night


This concludes the 2018-19 season for the GU women's swimming and diving program.
