GU's Julia Miller-Notestone wins 100-yard backstroke on second day of NEAC championships

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving program remains in fourth place after two days of competition at the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships hosted by Cazenovia College at the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex.

The host Wildcats are in first with 409 points followed by Cedar Crest College (332 points), Wells College (313), Gallaudet (139) and SUNY Cobleskill (122).

Junior Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.27. 

Senior Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) swam in the 400-yard IM final and finished in fourth place (6:11.45).

Junior Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.) finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly as she touched the wall in 1:18.58.

GU's 200-yard medley relay team of Miller-Notestone, Kiefer, Monroe and freshman Breanna Power (Milton, Ontario) placed fifth with a time of 2:32.63 as this was the first event to start the Saturday evening finals.


  • Power finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle (3:40.96)
  • Sophomore Alyssa Castillo (Fresno, Calif.) was 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke (2:27.69)


The third and final day of the NEAC swimming and diving championships will take place tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 17) at the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex. Preliminaries are slated to start at 10 a.m. with the finals at 4:45 p.m. The final seven events include the 1,650 free, 100 IM, 200 backstroke, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 free relay.
