Gallaudet sits in fourth place at 2019 NEAC championships after first day

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving program began the 2019 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships hosted by Cazenovia College here Friday at the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex and after the first day of competition the Bison are in fourth place.

The host Wildcats are in first with 173 points followed by Cedar Crest College (143 points), Wells College (130), Gallaudet (76) and SUNY Cobleskill (52).

Junior Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) finished second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:02.82. She trailed Cazenovia's Jenni Uplinger, who set a new NEAC championship record with a time of 5:27.24.

Gallaudet's 400-yard medley relay team finished third in the A-Final with a time of 5:46.12 to earn 24 team points.

GU's 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.), Miller-Notestone, senior Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) and freshman Breanna Power (Milton, Ontario) placed fifth with a time of 2:15.66 as this was the first event to start the Friday evening finals.


  • Monroe was fifth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:34.60)
  • Sophomore Alyssa Castillo (Fresno, Calif.) took seventh in the 200-yard IM (4:21.56)
  • Power was 11th in the 500-yard freestyle (10:15.95)
  • GU had no swimmer make the 50-yard freestyle final
  • There were three divers in the 1-meter diving final


Gallaudet returns to the Schneeweiss Athletic Complex tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 16) for Day 2 of the 2019 NEAC championships. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. and the finals will be held at 6 p.m. The events on display include the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 800 relay.
