Bison fall to Marymount on Friday night

A Gallaudet women's swimmer swims in the Field House pool in a college meet. The swimmer is doing the freestyle stroke. The swimmer's right arm is out of the water making a swimming stroke motion. The swimmer wears a hot pink swimming cap and some goggles.

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving team dropped a non-conference meet here Friday night at Marymount (Va.) University, 98-79.

Gallaudet (2-4) was led by Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.) who finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:27.18), 100-yard butterfly (1:23.46) and the 500-yard freestyle (6:49.66). Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) was the first Bison to touch the wall in the 200-yard IM with a time of 3:01.06 as she secured nine team points for the buff and blue.

Sophomore Jackie Perkins (Hampton, Va.) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (29.09) while teammate Alisia Metante (Pleasanton, Calif.) was fourth (29.99). The pair was flipped in the 100-yard freestyle as Metante was second and Perkins was third with times of 1:04.71 and 1:05.61, respectively. Perkins was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:16.95).

Marymount (2-0) cruised behind sophomore Hayley Elizondo and junior Taylor Plumley as the Saints picked up a lot of first-place finishes.


  • Junior Alyssa Hanbury (Orlando, Fla.) was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:24.61) and third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:37.51)
  • Kiefer was third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:25.53) and 500-yard freestyle (7:01.04)
  • There were 10 events in the meet
  • There was no diving event this evening

Gallaudet is off for the next three weeks before its next meet on Saturday, Dec. 9, in Cazenovia, N.Y., to face two conference foes in SUNY Cobleskill and the host Wildcats of Cazenovia.
