GU women's team in fourth place after Day 1 of NEAC swimming and diving championships

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving team is in fourth place after the first day of competition here Friday night at the 2018 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships being hosted by SUNY Cobleskill.

Three-time defending champion Cazenovia College is in first place with 223 points followed by Cedar Crest College (124 points), Wells College (114), Gallaudet (95) and SUNY Cobleskill (36).

Junior Alisia Metante (Pleasanton, Calif.) and sophomore Jackie Perkins (Hampton, Va.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle final. Metante touched the wall in 29.71 seconds with Perkins right behind at 29.90.

Gallaudet's 400-yard medley relay team was third with a time of 4:52.01 while Cazenovia set a NEAC record with a time of 4:20.80.

Junior Alyssa Hanbury (Orlando, Fla.) was eighth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 3:03.60 while sophomore Jessica Monroe (Senoia, Ga.) was eighth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:38.11).


  • Junior Rochelle Carty-Bauman (Brampton, Ontario) was 10th in the 200-yard IM (3:15.50)
  • Senior Katie Bigelow (Flushing, Mich.) was 12th in the 50-yard freestyle (31.75)
  • Gallaudet had no divers in the 1-meter diving event


Gallaudet returns to the Bouck Hall Natatorium tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 17) for Day 2 of the 2018 NEAC championships. Preliminaries will start at 10 a.m. and the finals will be held at 6 p.m. The events on display include the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and the 800 relay.
