Gallaudet women's swimming team picks up first win of season

ROANOKE, Va. – The Gallaudet University women's swimming and diving team split the double dual meet here Saturday at Hollins University. The Bison lost to Hollins, 108-90, but turned the tables against Ferrum College with a 27-point win, 109-82, over the Panthers.

Senior Anna Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) led the Bison team with two first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (25.68 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:04.84). Sophomore Elizabeth Sadler (Rochester, N.Y.) earned a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle (7:07.94). Freshman Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) and sophomore Kylie Sterling (Sumner, Wash.) finished in second and third place, respectively, in the 1,000 freestyle (14:16.89 and 15:47.57).

The Bison had three other third-place finishes; senior Brianna Stroud-Williams (Tucker, Ga.) finished the 200 freestyle in 2:37.37, junior Paige-Cecily Ramos (New York, N.Y.) finished the 200 IM in 3:13.07 seconds and senior Katie Bigelow (Flushing, Mich.) finished the 100 freestyle in 1:06.6 seconds.

Kiefer, Stroud-Williams, Sadler and freshman Alyssa Hanbury (Orlando, Fla.) were part of the 400 freestyle relay team that took first place with a time of 4:45.84.

Hollins, who had six first-place finishes in the meet, also beat Ferrum, 113-64.
