
GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2014 All-Conference Swimming and Diving teams and Gallaudet University grabbed 12 spots on three different women's teams. Five different Bison women’s swimmers earned all-conference honors and Gallaudet University head coach Larry Curran was chosen by his peers as NEAC Coach of the Year.
A swimmer needs to place first, second or third in an event at the NEAC championships to earn all-conference status. The 2014 NEAC swimming and diving championships were held Feb. 14-16, on the campus of Cazenovia College. Gallaudet finished third overall at this year's championships and broke six championship meet records and 11 school records.
Juniors Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) and sister Anna Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) combined to earn 12 first-team honors and two second-team honors. The Polivanchuks were members of the four relay teams that set new NEAC championship records and school records; 200-yard freestyle relay (1:47.87), 400-yard freestyle relay (3:54.35), 200-yard medley relay (1:58.12) and 400-yard medley relay (4:24.46).
Anna earned six first-team honors, as she was first in the 100-yard backstroke with a record setting time of 1:00.62 and the 200-yard backstroke with a record setting time of 2:14.96 to go along with the four first-place relays. She also earned one second-team honor in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.12 seconds.
Alexandra also earned six first-team honors, as she finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:22.06 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.35, and was part of the four first-place relays. She also earned a second team honor in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:43.52.
Senior Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.) and freshman Thyra Wood (Great Falls, Mont.) were the other two members of the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay. Giles was also on the 400-yard medley relay and Wood was on the 400-yard freestyle relay. Freshman Molly Verseput (Upland, Calif.) a member of 400-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Verseput finished with two third-team honors in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:09.64 and the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 21:09.01.
Cedar Crest freshman Maggie Olock (Bethlehem, Pa.) was selected by the coaches as both the NEAC Swimmer of the Year and Rookie of the Year.
