Polivanchuk picks up two more wins as GU is swept in York

YORK, Pa. – The Gallaudet University women’s swimming team was swept Friday night by Penn St.-Altoona, 54-40, and York (Pa.) College, 63-31, on the road here in a double dual meet hosted by the Spartans.

Sophomore Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) continues to lead the way for the Bison (1-8) as she won two events and finished second in another. Polivanchuk was first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:22.82 and she was the first to the wall in the 100 backstroke (1:05.53). She narrowly lost her third event, 100 breaststroke, as she finished with a time of 1:15.80. Junior Valerie Farr (Fremont, Calif.) was third in the 100 breaststroke as she finished right behind her teammate in 1:24.85.

Junior Katie Giles (Gaithersburg, Md.) was fourth in the 50 and 100 freestyle and was the lead leg of the 400 freestyle relay. Giles finished the 50 freestyle in 29.34 seconds, four seconds off the pace, and touched the wall in the 100 free in 1:07.24. Freshman Liv Polzin (Frederick, Md.) was right with Giles on the 100 free as she touched the wall in 1:07.75 and she was a second behind her teammate in the 50 free (30.66).

Gallaudet is off until the New Year and will next host North Eastern Athletic Conference foes Cazenovia College and St. Elizabeth on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m.
