GANSEVOORT, N.Y. - The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week selections for Nov. 5 and Gallaudet University sophomore Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) was named Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week after a dominant performance last Saturday in a 92-90 victory over Ferrum College.
Polivanchuk has picked up right where she left off last year as she won three of meet’s 12 events. The reigning NEAC Swimmer of the Year won the 200-yard individual medley, finishing over nine seconds ahead of the next competitor with a time of 2:25.18, while also taking the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.66) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:18.44).
M. Sawyer Ballance of Cazenovia College was named NEAC Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week after a tremendous effort for the Wildcats this past weekend. The senior swimmer recorded two first place finishes for the Wildcats in their dual meet against nonconference foe Utica College Saturday, as he won both the 50-yard freestyle (23.64) and the 100-yard freestyle (51.94). Ballance also recorded the fastest individual time (23.83) during the 200-yard medley relay event, where Cazenovia finished with a time of 1:51.32 as a team and placed second by just three seconds.
Polivanchuk’s award is the first for the Bison this season. The team returns to the pool in a double dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 17, and looks to continue their momentum in a double dual meet against Goucher College and Arcadia University in Towson, Md., at 1 p.m.
