WASHINGTON, D.C. – Jesse Fonner has been named the new diving coach for the Gallaudet University men’s and women’s swimming teams as announced by head coach Larry Curran. Fonner is a former diver at Stanford University where he was a part of four Pac-10 championship teams and four national runner-up finishes at the NCAA Division I swimming and diving championships.
He graduated from Stanford with a bachelor’s degree in sociology in June 2006 and received his master’s in sociology a year later. He was a four-time Pac-10 Academic first team honoree.
The Rockville, Md., native currently works for the U.S. Department of Transportation in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
He has been a private diving coach in Montgomery County, Md., for many years and taught a deaf high school diver for nearly four years and is fluent in American Sign Language (ASL).
