Bison lose double dual meet at Hollins University

ROANOKE, Va. – The Gallaudet University women’s swimming team competed in a double dual meet last Saturday, facing Hollins University and Greensboro College. The Bison fell to Hollins 63-32 and were narrowly clipped by Greensboro by a score of 48-46. The Bison originally won the Greensboro meet by the same score but the score was flipped days after the meet after conferring with the race officials on one of the events.

The 400-yard medley relay was a bright spot for GU. Consisting of sophomore Alyssa Gleason (Springfield, Va.), sophomore Valerie Farr (Fremont, Calif.), junior Tong Song (Beijing, China), and Tandy Lewis (Frederick, Md.), the first Gallaudet team came in second place with a time of 5 minutes, 7.37 seconds.

Gallaudet had two relay teams in the race. The other, made up of junior Randi Medugno (Fremont, Calif.), freshman Jennifer Jaramillo (South Jordan, Utah), Brittany Turner, and Emily Harrison finished fourth in 6 minutes, 24.23 seconds.

Several swimmers had strong individual performances as well. Song finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:22.25) and third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:51.94). Lewis took the second spot in the 100-yard freestyle event with a time of 1:06.85. Also with an important contribution was Farr, who placed third in the 200-yard individual medley.

The Bison are back in action for their first conference meet at home against SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, November 12 at 1 p.m.
