Gallaudet men's and women's swimming set to host second home meet on Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University men’s and women’s swimming teams will host their second home meet of the season this Saturday, Dec. 3, at noon, in the Field House pool. They are set to take on North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) opponent Wells College.

The Bison, defending NEAC champions in both men’s and women’s swimming, opened conference competition at home on Nov. 12, when the men defeated SUNY Cobleskill 138-71, while the women lost, 117-84. Senior Brian Bennett (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has won three NEAC Men’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week awards this year, and sophomore Valerie Farr (Fremont, Calif.) has one honor as well. The men have a 3-2-1 record while the women are 1-6.

Gallaudet made its NEAC debut last season and dethroned Wells College, the defending conference champions, by the score of 502-428 in the three-day NEAC men’s swimming championship meet. On the women’s side the Express finished third behind Gallaudet and Cazenovia College in the NEAC women’s swimming championship meet last year. GU posted 565 team points compared to Wells’ total of 347 points.

This is the second of three home meets this season, with the last one coming January 21 against Hood College. It is the last meet against NEAC competition for the men until the NEAC championships in February. The women will face one more NEAC opponent during the regular season when they travel to College of St. Elizabeth on Feb. 4.

Fans are encouraged to come out and support the swimming teams by showing up for the meet in their Buff and Blue and sit in the bleachers alongside the pool.
