Win streak ends on Senior Day against Mustangs

Gallaudet women's soccer seniors gather together on Saturday afternoon at Hotchkiss Field with their senior awards.

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) decision to Morrisville State College here at Hotchkiss Field on a chilly Saturday afternoon. The loss snaps Gallaudet's three-game win streak and dashed any hope of making the conference playoffs. The game also marked senior day for seven individuals on the Gallaudet squad.

Morrisville St. (6-11, 4-7 NEAC) jumped out to an early lead when Hailey Moriarty scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Madison Shoemaker at the 12:54 mark. The Mustangs added a second goal at the 28:21 mark when Rachel Davis' high shot, from 15 yards out, deflected off senior goalie Silvya Levesque's hand and into the goal. Davis was assisted by Jennyfer Marquez. MSC took the 2-0 lead into halftime.

Gallaudet (6-10-1, 3-7-1 NEAC) got on the scoreboard in the 77th minute when Henrianne Jansen (Apeldoorn, Netherlands) booted a shot from 25 yards out to the upper right corner of Morrisville's net past goalie Lydia Young.  This was Jansen's fourth goal of the season.

GU recorded three final shots in the closing 10 minutes. Morrisville St. got awarded a penalty kick at the 83:17 mark but Moriarty sailed the shot over the Bison goal.

Levesque started the game in net and played the first half where she made three saves. Freshman Payton DeGraw (Salt Lake City, Utah) moved from forward to goalie in the second half and made five saves.

Morrisville St. goalie Meaghan Miller (3-6) made five saves in 75 minutes played before Young (two saves) spelled her for the remainder of the game.

Prior to the start of the game, Gallaudet's women's soccer coaching staff paid tribute to its senior class. The senior class includes goalie Silvya Levesque (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), defender Cyndie Rieder (Benicia, Calif.), defender Deltona Markel (Buda, Texas), midfielder Isabelle Troup (Snellville, Ga.), midfielder Henrianne Jansen, midfielder Tiffany Anderson (Kyle, Texas) and midfielder/forward Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.).

Levesque has been solid in net for the Bison for four seasons (2016-19) as she leaves with the most wins (21) and shutouts (11) in GU history. She made 483 saves in 5,031 minutes played in 58 games. Her final career record is 21-34-2 wuth a .703 save percentage and 3.65 goals against average. Rieder played four seasons (2016-19) and appeared in 67 games and tallied one assist and three shots (two shots on goal). Markel played four seasons (2016-19) where she appeared in 57 games, scored three goals, seven assists, one game-winning goal and took 23 shots (16 shots on goal). Markel also appeared in goal four times during the 2016 season where she made 29 saves in 273 minutes played. Troup played three seasons (2017-19) and appeared in 50 games where she scored two goals, one assist, five points and nine shots (seven shots on goal). Jansen, a visiting student, only played one season (2019) with the Bison women's soccer program where she played in 17 games, scored four goals, five assists, 13 points and recorded 17 shots (12 shots on goal). This was Anderson's only season (2019) on the women's soccer team as she played in 10 games and had one shot. Neild, a three-sport standout for the Bison, played two seasons (2018-19) with the GU women's soccer program where she appeared in 32 games, scored 22 goals, 14 assists, 58 points, five game-winning goals and took 150 shots (72 shots on goal).

This concludes the 2019 season for the Gallaudet women's soccer program.
