WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team lost to Lancaster Bible College, 2-0, Wednesday night in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) game under the lights at Hotchkiss Field.
Gallaudet (2-5, 0-3 NEAC) kept things close against Lancaster Bible (5-4, 2-1 NEAC), who defeated the Bison 7-0 last season.
The visiting Chargers got on the scoreboard in the 16th minute when Maggie Arnold lifted a shot over a sliding Payton DeGraw (Salt Lake City, Utah) and into the Bison goal. Arnold was assisted on the play by Maddy Miller.
GU had a scoring opportunity 10 minutes later, when sophomore Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) lifted a high pass from the left corner of the field towards the net. The high-arcing pass went over the head of Charger goalie Rheeana Miles (three saves) and junior Sharon Castillo (Dallas, Texas) and a LBC defender ran towards the ball and empty net. Lancaster Bible's defender Julia Hultstrand was able to get a foot on the ball and clear it out before Castillo could knock it into the empty net.
The two teams went into halftime with the Chargers leading 1-0.
In the second half, Lancaster Bible scored a second goal Jackie Moore scored off a loose rebound in front of the net. DeGraw made one of her 11 saves on Moore's first shot but couldn't hold onto the ball as Moore knocked home the rebound.
- Neild led the Bison with four shots (one on goal)
- Gallaudet was outshot 25-6
- Things were close in the first half as the Chargers held an 8-5 advantage in shots
- GU had two corner kicks to LBC's four
- LBC played 22 players in the game
Gallaudet will travel to Penn St.-Harrisburg (5-4, 3-0 NEAC) on Saturday, Sept. 28, for a 2 p.m. conference game to close out the month of September.
