Gallaudet holds off Washington Adventist in 6-5 win

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University softball team held off Washington Adventist University here Friday afternoon to win 6-5 at the GU Softball Complex.

Gallaudet (4-5) broke open a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs to take a two-run lead, 6-4, into the seventh inning.

Washington Adventist (1-3) tried to take the lead in the last inning after Kassandra Espinosa tripled to right-center field and scored on a ground out to pull the Shock to within one run.

GU walked the bases loaded before Erin Greenlaw (3-for-4) popped out to end the game.

Senior pitcher Jacklyn Zacarias (Montebello, Calif.) picked up her third win of the season as she allowed five runs (two earned) on eight hits, three walks and struck out nine.

Freshman Karla Gomez-Zepeda (Santa Rosa, Calif.) led the Bison offense with three RBI, two hits and one run scored. Jenny Mendis (Brook Park, Ohio) added two singles and two runs scored.

Recelia Rosario (1-3) took the loss in the circle as she allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits, five walks and two strikeouts.


  • Sophomore Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.) was one of three Bison with two hits
  • Freshman Lennette Butler (Columbus, Ohio) walked twice
  • Five different Bison scored a run

Gallaudet is off this week for Spring Break but will make the short trip to Takoma Park, Md., to face the Shock on Sunday, March 24, at 1:30 p.m.
