Bison fall to Wildcats on the road Thursday evening

Gallaudet's Head Coach Justen Burns high-fives a player for great effort.

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - The Gallaudet University softball team dropped a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader Thursday evening to Penn College at Elm Park. The host Wildcats (14-12, 6-4 NEAC) won the first game 10-2 in five innings and they took the second game, 10-0 in five innings, over the Bison (10-18, 2-12 NEAC).

Game 1: Penn College 10, Gallaudet 2 (F/5)
Gallaudet was held hitless in the first game as the Bison scored two unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning after it trailed by 10 runs.

The Bison were down to their last out before Wildcats starting pitcher Morgan Heritage (4-7) hit a batter and an infield error allowed a run to score. Gallaudet scored its second run on a passed ball before Heritage recorded her seventh and final strikeout to end the game.

Freshman Freya Seremeth (Frederick, Md.) took the loss in the circle as she allowed 10 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits and seven walks in four innings pitched.

Penn College got on the scoreboard with two runs in the second, one run in the third before the Wildcats posted seven runs in the fourth.

Game 2: Penn College 10, Gallaudet 0 (F/5)
In the second game, the two teams were knotted in a scoreless tie until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Wildcats scored 10 runs to take the game's first lead and end the game in the fifth inning due to the eight-run mercy rule.

Freshman Kendall Hudson (Blissfield, Mich.) led the Bison offense going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double as she had three of GU's four hits.

Senior pitcher Jacklyn Zacarias (Montebello, Calif.) took the loss as she allowed 10 runs on 11 hits, walked four and struck out one batter.

Kassidy Svenson (3-1) threw the complete game shutout where she gave up four hits, walked two and struck out five batters.

GU will travel back to Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 20, to take on Penn St.-Berks (20-8, 10-0 NEAC) in a conference doubleheader at noon.
