Bison softball ranked 10th in NEAC coaches preseason poll

GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The Gallaudet University softball team was picked 10th in the fourth North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) preseason coaches poll released Wednesday. 

The Bison finished the 2018 season with a 13-22 record and a 5-13 mark in conference play. GU accumulated 43 points in the 12-team preseason poll.

Penn St.-Berks claimed the top spot with 10 first-place fote and 120 points. The Nittany Lions, the top team in the South Division, return nearly all of their starters from last year's championship squad along with NEAC Player and Pitcher of the Year Jess Rozick. Keuka College, the top team in the North Division, received two first-place votes and 110 points. The two teams met in the conference championship last year.

Gallaudet opens the season Tuesday, March 5, when it hosts Lincoln (Pa.) University in a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m.

The preseason poll rankings were conducted by the NEAC softball coaches, with each coach ranking all teams but their own using a staggered points system (11 points for a first-place vote, 10 points for second, etc.). This is the fourth year the NEAC has held preseason polls.
