LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2017-18 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors and Easton/NFCA Top 10 Academic Team rankings for collegiate and high school levels.
The Gallaudet University softball program had four individuals earn Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors including graduated senior Alyssa Barlow (Chandler, Ariz.) and rising sophomores Irene De Luna (Hammond, Ind.), Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) and Sabina Shysh (Tucson, Ariz.).
The Bison were one of three programs from the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) to earn Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors. Keuka College led the way with 11 honorees while Penn College matched Gallaudet with four honors.
The rankings and honors recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the NFCA membership categories. NCAA Division III led the way with 1,600 student-athletes earning a 3.5 grade-point average or higher for 2017-18. NCAA Division I and Division II followed with 1,311 and 1,026 honorees. Two-year colleges amassed 553 recipients and NAIA totaled 456.
