GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2018 softball all-conference awards on Thursday and Gallaudet University freshman shortstop Hannah Neild (Litchfield, N.H.) was named the 2018 NEAC Softball Rookie of the Year. She was also one of two freshmen named to the All-NEAC first team.
Neild is second in NCAA Division II for triples (8) and third in triples per game (0.26). She leads the NEAC in runs (34), hits (45), triples (8) and total bases (82). Neild ranks second in the league with a .455 batting average, .509 on-base percentage, .828 slugging percentage and 29 RBIs. She has also been a threat on the base paths, ranking fifth among NEAC players with 14 stolen bases. Neild finished her season with 17 multi-hit games and 12 multi-run games. In the field, Neild has a .925 fielding percentage and ranks first in the NEAC after turning eight double plays. In addition to earning NEAC Softball Player of the Week honors twice this season, she was also an All-NEAC women's basketball first team honoree this year.
Gallaudet, in eight NEAC seasons, has accumulated 15 all-conference honors (seven first team honorees, eight second team selections) and two Rookie of the Year awards.
Penn St.-Berks junior Jessica Rozick was selected as the NEAC Player and Pitcher of the Year while Keuka College's Jamie Burke was honored with the NEAC Softball Coach of the Year for the seventh time in her career.
This is the first year the NEAC has done a combined all-conference team for softball. Since Gallaudet has been a member of the conference (2010-11) the softball All-NEAC teams had been split North and South Division.
Note: Statistics, national rankings and conference rankings are through May 2.
