Miller-Notestone and McGriff selected as February Bison of the Month presented by GIS

WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University Athletics Department has announced the February Bison of the Month recipients presented by Gallaudet Interpreting Services (GIS). Freshman Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) of the women's swimming and diving team and senior center and co-captain Joshua McGriff (Somerset, N.J.) of the men's basketball team were selected for their standout performances during the month of February.

This is Miller-Notestone's second Bison on the Month Honor of the 2016-17 season. She was the lone Bison women's swimmer to earn All-North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) honors this season. She earned All-NEAC honors for her performance in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in one minute, 7.75 seconds for a third-place finish.

A swimmer or diver needs to place first, second or third in an event at the NEAC Championships to earn all-conference status. The 2017 swimming and diving championships were held Feb. 10-12 and were hosted by Cazenovia College. Gallaudet finished in fifth place with 269 points.

As expected, McGriff was once again an offensive threat in his last month of competition for the Bison. Throughout the month of February McGriff was the second leading scorer as he started all seven games and was able to reach double-digits in each game, he shot 75 percent from the field and averaged 15.4 points per game. He was also a force on the glass as he hauled in 67 rebounds and averaged 9.6 rebounds per game.

McGriff scored a monthly high, 21 points, against Wilson College on Feb. 18. His best performance came on Feb. 11, when he scored 19 points and hauled in 18 rebounds to lead the Bison past Wells College.
