WASHINGTON - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team made the short trip across town to Catholic University of America this afternoon to play in two non-conference matches. The Bison lost to Shenandoah University, 3-1, and was swept by Bridgewater (Va.) College, 3-0.
Gallaudet (1-6) lost the first set to Shenandoah, 14-25, before it bounced back with a 25-21 second set win. The Hornets closed out the match 17-25 and 14-25. Junior outside hitter Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) led the Bison with 16 kills and 15 digs while freshman Adele Daniels (Frederick, Md.) added nine kills and seven digs. Junior setter Jasmine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) passed out 33 assists.
In the second match, Bridgewater won 17-25, 16-25 and 7-25. Thomas was held to nine kills and seven digs. Sophomore libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) made 11 digs and Jeter tallied 17 assists.
- Thomas combined for 25 kills, 22 digs and three blocks
- Jeter tallied 50 assists in two matches
- Fuechtmann had 10 or more digs in both matches
- GU had seven service aces on the day
- Freshman Maria Elena Rendon (Espanola, N.M.) recorded 11 kills
Gallaudet heads to St. Mary's College of Maryland for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. The last time the two teams met was two years ago (Oct. 24, 2014) when the Seahawks won 3-2 over the Bison.
