ARLINGTON, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team lost a tough non-conference match 3-1 to Marymount (Va.) University here Wednesday night at the Verizon Sports Arena.
The Bison (1-4) dropped the first two sets 23-25 and 16-25 before battling back in the third set. Sophomore Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) served up several aces to help the visiting Bison to the 25-22 set win.
Marymount (4-2) was too strong in the fourth set as it put the match away with a 25-12 set win.
GU was led by junior outside hitter Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) with 11 kills and 13 digs for the double-double. Freshman outside hitter Maria Elena Rendon (Espanola, N.M.) added eight kills, eight digs and one block solo.
The Saints had three players in double digits for kills led by Emileigh Rettig (15 kills, 12 digs) and Cailyn Thomas (11 kills).
- Fuechtmann made 10 digs and had two service aces
- Junior Jasmine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) led the team with 21 assists and three service aces
- Freshman Camryn Skari (Federal Way, Wash.) and freshman Brynn Schmidt (Bozeman, Mont.) each had four block assists
- Freshman middle hitter Adele Daniels (Frederick, Md.) added five digs, two kills and two block assists
Gallaudet makes the short trip over to Catholic University of America on Friday, Sept. 9, to face Shenandoah University and Bridgewater (Va.) College at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
