NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team took a break from conference games Tuesday night to travel here to face nationally ranked Christopher Newport University. The Bison lost in straight sets to the No. 20 Captains at the Freeman Center.
Gallaudet (14-14) trailed for the majority of the match except the third set where it held a three-point lead, 10-7, before getting out scored 10-2 by the hosts. Christopher Newport (18-7) won the match 25-20, 25-10, 25-18 before a crowd of 118.
Junior outside hitter Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) recorded her 14th double-double with 11 kills and 16 digs. Freshman middle hitter Adele Daniels (Frederick, Md.) recorded 14 kills while junior setter Jasmine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) passed out 28 assists.
CNU had a balanced attack as Briana Sutton and Katelyn Newsome recorded seven kills while Katie Piper (six kills) served up four aces.
- Freshman defensive specialist Farrah Harmount (Union City, Calif.) made 13 digs for the second straight match
- Freshman outside hitter Camryn Skari (Federal Way, Wash.) added three kills
- Sophomore middle hitter Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) threw down three kills
- This is the second Top 20 team the Bison have faced in a week
Gallaudet jumps back into conference play on Friday as it closes out the NEAC regular-season schedule this weekend. The Bison will travel to Williamsport, Pa., to play Penn College and Penn St.-Berks on Friday, Oct. 21.
