GU women's volleyball ranked No. 7 in Mid-Atlantic regional rankings
LEXINGTON, KY. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) released their first regional rankings of the season recently and the Gallaudet University women’s volleyball team was ranked seventh in the Mid-Atlantic region for NCAA Division III programs.
The Bison are off to an impressive 24-6 start, including a 9-1 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) mark. Eastern University of St. Davids, Pa., is ranked No. 1 in the region. Stevenson University and Johns Hopkins University, to whom Gallaudet lost earlier this season, are ranked fourth and fifth respectively. The Bison defeated eighth-ranked Messiah College 3-0 this year.
There are eight regions around the country, and the top eight teams from each region were ranked. Aside from the Mid-Atlantic, there are the Central, Great Lakes, Midwest, New England, New York, South, and West regions. Gallaudet fell 3-0 in an early season match against the West region’s sixth-ranked Pacific Lutheran University at the Bulldog Classic in Texas.
As the regular-season winds down and postseason play approaching, the rankings will have implications for seeding when NCAA tournament time rolls around.
The Bison are back in action for a 7 p.m. non-conference game Wednesday night (October 26) at Catholic University of America.
