Bison take down Gettysburg in five-set thriller
WASHINGTON D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team pulled off an impressive non-conference victory Wednesday night in a five set match against Gettysburg College at the Field House. After losing the first set, the Bison won the second, third, and fifth sets to secure the 3-2 win (16-25, 25-12, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13).
Coming off a four-match sweep at the Worthington Classic tournament last weekend, the win brings the GU (19-6) win streak to seven. The loss snaps Gettysburg's five-match win streak.
Junior Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) led the team with 17 kills on 53 attempts, and added three digs. Freshman Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) was right behind her with 16 kills on 40 attempts, and 18 digs to lead the team, securing her third consecutive double-double and seventh on the season.
GU freshman Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) matched her career-high with 51 assists in the match. She added a team-high four service aces, in addition to four block solos and three block assists.
Virginia Hogan led Gettysburg (14-7) with 13 kills on 36 attempts and 15 digs in the loss. It was the Bullets' third straight five-set match.
The Bison return to the court Thursday, October 13, to face conference foe Penn St.-Harrisburg on AVCA Dig Pink Night at 7 p.m.
