Bison 12-match win streak ends as Catholic defeats Gallaudet in five sets
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University women's volleyball had its 12-match win streak end Wednesday night on the road against Catholic University of America after being up 2-0 the Bison dropped the final three sets at the DeFour Center.
Gallaudet (24-7) took the first two sets by identical 25-21 set wins before Catholic (22-6) rallied and won the third set 25-15 and tied the match with a 25-21 fourth set win. In the fifth and decisive set the Cardinals controlled it with a 15-6 win.
Junior outside hitter Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) led the team with 12 kills and 13 digs while freshman Kali Frowick (Norfolk, Neb.) notched a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs. Freshman setter Sarah Tubert (Burbank, Calif.) passed out 33 assists to go with five kills, five digs and four blocks. Junior middle hitter Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.), reigning NEAC Volleyball Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week, made eight kills and five blocks. As a team the Bison only had a .176 hitting percentage in the five-set loss.
Claudia Jean and Bridget Kulesh led Catholic as the duo made 12 kills each. The Cardinals lost the previous meeting with the Bison 3-1 back on October 8 at the Field House.
GU wraps up the regular-season this Saturday, October 29, in Scranton, Pa., against Lebanon Valley College and University of Scranton.
