Gallaudet University set to host the 2011 Volleyball Friendship Games
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 2011 Volleyball Friendship Games being hosted by United States of America (USA) Deaf Volleyball, a committee under USA Deaf Sports Federation, will be held July 30-August 6 at the Field House on the campus of Gallaudet University.
The best men's and women's deaf volleyball national teams from all across the world will be participating in the week long tournament. The top three women's teams in the world, Ukraine, USA and Japan, will be competing along with Canada. The men's top two teams in the world, Russia and Ukraine, along with Venezuela and USA will be present.
"It is a rare event to host because you have the top three women's teams along with the top two men's teams on display here in the states," said USA women's head coach Lynn Ray Boren. "This is a once in a decade or 20 to 30-year occurrence for this event to take place here. It has been 20 years since Russia was last here."
The Opening Ceremonies will take place on Saturday, July 30, at 7 p.m. in the Field House. Competition gets underway on Monday, August 1, and will run through Saturday, August 6. All of the championship matches and the Closing Ceremonies will take place on Saturday. Tickets will be $10 per day or $35 for admission for the week. The Opening Ceremonies will cost $15 per ticket.
