Bison close out regular-season with split against non-conference foes
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Gallaudet University volleyball team salvaged a split on Friday at the Field House as the Bison faced two non-conference foes to help kick-off Homecoming Weekend at Kendall Green. The Bison beat Rowan University 3-0 (28-26, 25-17, 25-17) in the first match of the day but fell by the same score to Stevenson University (24-7), a former Capital Athletic Conference foe of the Bison, 25-21, 25-18, 25-21.
Gallaudet wrap up the regular-season with a 22-14 record and a 10-3 mark at the Field House. The Bison will enter next weekend's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships as the No. 1 seed from the South. The Bison will need to win two matches to earn a trip to the NCAA tournament.
Sophomore Ann Whited (Fishers, Ind.) combined to total 21 kills to go with 25 digs in the two Friday matches. Junior setter Paige Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) had 61 assists and 15 digs while fellow junior libero Micaela Paulone (Fishers, Ind.) made a team-high 34 digs and five service aces. Sophomores Mari Klassen (White Rock, British Columbia) and Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) finished with 17 and 16 kills, respectively. Klassen added 14 digs and four service aces. Sophomore Krystal Johnson (North Richland Hills, Texas) had 10 kills, eight digs and four service aces.
