TOWSON, Md. – The Gallaudet University women’s track and field team, who had been off for three weeks, got back into the swing of things on Saturday as the Bison competed at the Goucher College Classic in Towson, Md. The Bison earned 10 team points to finish 9th out of nine schools.
Gallaudet earned five points in the 4x100 meter relay as the team finished with a time of 1:00.99. The four runners on the relay consisted of sophomores Kayla Hardaway (Austin, Texas), Maddie Morgan (Hockessin, Del.) and Maggie Hoyt (Edgecomb, Maine) along with freshman Stephanie Weiss (Wellington, Fla.).
In the throwing events the Bison picked up five team points combined from two different throwers. Sophomore Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 10.60 meters to give GU three points. Freshman Victoria Rainey (Danvers, Ill.) was seventh in the discus with a throw of 27.29 meters. She was also 12th in the shot put (9.02 meters) while Israel was 10th in the discus (25.69 meters) and 10th in the javelin throw (25.99 meters).
Gallaudet had several other runners that fared well in different running events. Freshman Tiffany Bridgett was ninth in the 100 meter hurdles (19.96 seconds) while freshman Taryn Philippi (St. Cloud, Minn.) was 10th in the 400 meter dash (1:17.29) and 18th in the 800 meter run (2:57.56). Weiss was 16th in the 100 meter dash as she crossed in 15.13 seconds. Junior LeAnha Lawson (Philadelphia, Pa.) was 12th in the 400 meter dash (1:25.58) just behind Philippi.
The Bison will next travel to York, Pa., to participate in the Green and White Invitational hosted by York (Pa.) College on Saturday, April 2.
