Bison women's track and field team place 13th at DuCharme Invitational
CARLISLE, Pa. - A small Gallaudet University women's track and field team traveled to Carlisle, Pa., on Saturday to run in the final indoor meet for the Bison this season at the DuCharme Invitational on the campus of Dickinson College.
Gallaudet placed in two different events out of 19 and earned five team points to finish 13th overall out of 15 schools present. Gettysburg College won the invitational with 143 points, followed by Messiah College (111 points) and the host Red Devils from Dickinson College (104) round out the top three spots. GU was one of two Capital Athletic Conference teams present as Hood College placed 10th overall with 19 points.
The best performance of the day for the Bison came from freshman thrower Jessica Israel (Frederick, Md.) who was one of four freshmen to finish in the top five in shot put. Israel made a throw of 10.23 meters which equates to 33 feet, 6.75 inches to place fourth. Messiah freshman Hillary Pelkey won the event with a toss of 37 feet, 6.75 inches (11.45m). Fellow freshman thrower Rian Norris placed 18th overall with a throw of 25 feet, 11 inches (7.90m).
Sophomores Janae Cobbs (Sacramento, Calif.) and Rosemary Johnson (Richardson, Texas) ran in the 200-meter dash that Gettysburg's Amanda Kosio won in 27.60 seconds. Cobbs finished 25th overall out of 34 runners with a time of 31.24 seconds. Johnson was 32nd overall with a time of 33.25 seconds.
Gallaudet will next begin its outdoor schedule on Saturday, March 6, in Salisbury, Md., as the Bison participate in the Salisbury University Spring Classic.
