AquaBison swim hard, barely lose to Goucher

November 11 -- The women were tied with Goucher 37-37 after four events, Goucher's depth, as well as illness to several key Gallaudet lady swimmers, proved too much as the talented Gophers prevailed 125-80.
"This is a great day for Gallaudet Swimming," exclaimed Head Coach Bill Snape. "Both our men and women really came through. As we continue to work hard, there will be more wins like today. We also salute the Goucher team for their sportsmanship and good competition," he added.
Sophomore Jodi Winkelmann was a double winner, nabbing the 1000
Freestyle (12:47) and the 100 Backstroke (1:09.3). Also
victorious were Jessica Mikolay in the 50 Free (28.4) and Julia
Velasquez in the 100 Free (1.01.9). Other
impressive performances were put in by Kandace Morris, Jenny
Talbot, Silvia Herdicka, Marissa Larson and Susanna Krige, among
others. "Our women, when healthy, are as strong and deep as
Gallaudet has been in over fifteen years," noted Snape.
Before the Thanksgiving break, the Aqua-Bison have several more
meets where they can garner team wins. On Friday November 17,
they will swim St. Mary's College and Hood College at St.
Mary's. On Sunday November 19, they will swim Penn
St.-Altoona and Arcadia at Arcadia. Alumni and friends
are encouraged to attend and cheer the resurgent swim team on.
"Watch out, folks, here we come," concluded Snape.
