CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The second day of the 2017 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) swimming and diving championships hosted by Cazenovia College are in the books and Gallaudet University's women's team remains in fifth place.
The host Wildcats increased their first-place lead and sit in first place heading into the final day of the championships with 457 team points. Cazenovia is followed by Cedar Crest College (306), SUNY Cobleskill (231), Wells College (202) and Gallaudet (174).
Freshman Julia Miller-Notestone (Medford, Ore.) placed third in the 100-yard backstroke as she touched the wall in one minute, 7.75 seconds. She was just three seconds off a first-place finish. Her third-place finish still qualifies Miller-Notestone for all-conference honors.
Freshman Jackie Perkins (Hampton, Va.) was fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.10.
Junior Jana Kiefer (Leander, Texas) was sixth in the 400 IM as she finished with a time of 6:21.65.
Gallaudet finished fourth in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 9:55.29. The team was comprised of Miller-Notestone, freshman Jessica Monroe (Newnan, Ga.), senior Katie Bigelow (Flushing, Mich.) and Kiefer.
The Bison 200 medley relay team of Miller-Notestone, Perkins, Kiefer and Bigelow finished fifth as they clocked in at 2:13.39.
- Sophomore Alyssa Hanbury (Orlando, Fla.) was seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:32.79)
- Senior Paige-Cecily Ramos (New York, N.Y.) was seventh in the 400 IM (6:26.83)
- Monroe was eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:28.75)
- Hanbury was ninth in the 100 backstroke (1:25.45)
- GU had a second relay team place ninth in the 200 medley relay (2:44.05) that team consisted of Hanbury, junior Rochelle Carty-Bauman (Brampton, Ontario), Ramos and senior Naomi Schofield (Syracuse, N.Y.)

The third and final day of the NEAC swimming and diving championships will take place tomorrow (Sunday, Feb. 12) at the Stephen M. Schneeweiss Athletic Complex. Preliminaries are slated to start at 10 a.m. with the finals at 4:45 p.m. The final seven events include the 1,650 free, 100 IM, 200 backstroke, 100 free, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 free relay.
