GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) announced its student-athlete of the week selections for Jan. 30, and for the second straight week Gallaudet University freshman Alexandra Polivanchuk (Orebro, Sweden) was named NEAC Women’s Swimming Student-Athlete of the Week.
Polivanchuk had a hand in four of Gallaudet’s five first-place finishes last Wednesday night on the road at Notre Dame of Maryland University. The Bison lost the non-conference dual meet 68-53. Polivanchuk was first in the 100 and 200-yard butterfly with times of 1:01.69 and 2:29.18, respectively. She was also first in the 1,000-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 12:11.72. The freshman from Sweden swam the anchor leg of Gallaudet’s first-place 160-yard freestyle relay (1:33.22).
This is the third time a Bison swimmer has been honored by the NEAC with a weekly honor. Valerie Farr (Fremont, Calif.) was awarded the NEAC Women’s Swimmer Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 24, 2011, while Polivanchuk was first honored on Jan. 23, 2012.
Gallaudet will complete its regular-season schedule on Saturday, Feb. 4, on the road against NEAC foe College of St. Elizabeth at 4 p.m.
