WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Gallaudet University women's soccer team needed two second half goals to rally past Washington Adventist University, 3-2, on Sunday evening at Hotchkiss Field.
Gallaudet (5-8-1) improves its home record to 5-3-1 this season with the second victory in the past week. The two teams met back on September 4 to begin the season as Washington Adventist (6-13) won 4-1. A month and a week later the Bison turned the tables. GU is now two wins away from tying the school record.
Freshman Shaquana McDonough (Pembroke, Mass.) scored two goals and fellow freshman Johanna Arrigo (Ewing, N.J.) netted one goal and one assist. McDonough tied the game at 1-1 in the 31st minute off an assist from Arrigo. The duo added a goal apiece in the second half to secure the win for the Bison. This is the first come-from-behind victory for Gallaudet this season.
WAU's Dannielle Panuccio scored the game's first goal, 10 minutes into the half, and lofted in a second goal right before the half. WAU led 2-1 at the intermission.
In the second half, McDonough tied the game, once more, just three minutes in on an unassisted goal. Arrigo scored the game-winner in the 75th minute on an unassisted goal.
Gallaudet took a season-high 41 shots, 25 on goal, as the Bison unloaded 28 shots in the second half. WAU took 10 shots in the first half and only six in the second half.
Freshman goalie Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) earned the win as she allowed two first half goals but held WAU scoreless in the second half as she finished with six saves.
The Bison will travel to York, Pa., on Tuesday, October 13, to face the Spartans from York College in a Capital Athletic Conference game at 4 p.m.
