GANSEVOORT, N.Y. – The North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) released its 2017 softball all-conference awards on Thursday and Gallaudet University landed two student-athletes on one of the teams. Junior first baseman Alyssa Barlow (Chandler, Ariz.) was named to the All-NEAC South Division first team while fellow junior shortstop Courtney Thomas (Yorkville, Ill.) was selected to the second team.
Barlow ranks eighth in NCAA Division III for batting average (.518), 17th in on base percentage (.556) and 28th in hite (58). She leads the conference in hits, second in batting average, on base percentage and games (39), third in total bases (76), fifth in triples (four), seventh in slugging percentage (.679) and ninth in doubles (10). Barlow, who is also a pitcher, leads the conference with two saves and fifth in complete games (13) and sixth in strikeouts (73). This is Barlow's second appearance on an all-conference team, she was named to the 2015 All-NEAC South Division second team.
Thomas leads the NEAC in stolen bases (27), third in games (38), hit by pitch (four), 11th in runs (28) and 13th in triples (three). She helped Gallaudet rank third in NCAA Division III as a team for triples per game (0.63) and 11th in stolen bases per game (2.73).
Gallaudet, in seven NEAC seasons, has accumulated 14 all-conference honors (six first team honorees, eight second team selections) and one Rookie of the Year award.
Penn St.-Berks repeated for a second straight season for all of the major NEAC South Division awards. Senior outfielder Jenna Heffner was named the NEAC South Division Player of the Year, sophomore Jessica Rozick was selected as the South Pitcher of the Year and Donna Ference was honored with the NEAC South Division Coach of the Year. Penn St.-Abington's Isabel Hoch won the South Rookie of the Year.
