OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Gallaudet University softball team was swept on the road Monday by Stevenson University in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Mustangs (14-8, 5-5 CAC) held the Bison scoreless as they won 7-0 and 15-0 in five innings.
Gallaudet (1-15, 0-6 CAC) had one hit in the first game and two in the second game. Junior catcher Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) came through with a hit in the first game. Freshman pitcher/infielder Nicole O’Malley (Fredericksburg, Va.) and freshman shortstop Kara Gulvas (Crown Point, Ind.) had a hit each in the second game.
O’Malley (1-5) suffered the loss in the 7-0 game as she allowed seven runs (six earned) on six hits, 11 walks, one hit batter, one wild pitch as she struck out one Mustang. In the second game, freshman Alicia Johnson (San Jose, Calif.) started the game but lasted one inning as she surrendered 11 runs (10 earned) on no hits, eight walks, five hit batters and one strikeout. Junior Mandie Smith (Chicago, Ill.) hurled the final three innings as she allowed four runs on five hits, walked six, hit one batter and struck out one.
The Bison will next host No. 19 Salisbury University on Tuesday afternoon in a CAC doubleheader.
