Bottoms named Gallaudet softball interim head coach
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Gallaudet University Department of Athletics is proud to announce Kitty Bottoms as its softball interim head coach as announced by Athletics Director Michael Weinstock.
"I am confident in Coach Bottoms and what she can bring to our softball program," said Weinstock. "She will help build-up our players' mental and physical toughness as we embark on the 2010 season. Her experience as a Bison player and assistant coach is valuable to our student-athletes."
Bottoms, 28, has spent the past four years on the Gallaudet softball coaching staff as an assistant under former head coach Sarah Doleac, who retired this past summer after 25 years at the helm. Bottoms is a 2005 graduate of Gallaudet University where she majored in Physical Education. The Chesterfield, Va., native played four years on the GU softball team while in college. Bottoms was named Team MVP in 2003 and 2005 and also selected for the Coach's Award in '04.
"I am very excited to start this new position at Gallaudet. I have been around the program for the past eight years as a player and coach. I know I have the experience to help build this program and challenge myself in this role," said Bottoms. "One thing I learned from Coach Doleac that I will apply to this year's team is patience."
Coach Bottoms also shared her vision and goals for the 2010 GU softball team and the program as a whole.
"I want to continue to build this program up and pick-up where Coach Doleac left off. We need to develop our players and improve their skills," said Bottoms. "Motivating the team this year will be important because motivation comes from inside the individual. We need to stay motivated as we play a competitive schedule in our final year as members of the Capital Athletic Conference."
Bottoms currently resides in Washington, D.C., and works as a residential manager in Landover Hills, Md.
