York outmaneuvers Bison
WASHINGTON, D.C.--Gallaudet's youth, inexperience and lack of depth shone through a two-game combination of 42 runs from visiting York College. The brunt of the first game's scoring came in the fourth inning, as the Spartans drove in six runs off one lap through the batting order with a triple, a pair of doubles and two singles, along with Bison errors that were converted into Spartan runs.
York's bats gave way to 18 hits while the Bison were able to eke out four, and produced six errors. Pitcher Jenna Owens was not able to record any strikeouts in either game, pitching ten straight innings, while York used a total of three pitchers in as many innings. The Spartans had a 13-run fifth inning, including a grand slam, courtesy of leftfielder Andrea Tombesi. Shannon Wood also contributed a two-run home run in the first inning.
The Bison produced 13 hits over two games and tied Spartan put-outs at 15 in the first game. The Bison also left fewer runners on base (3) compared to York's 8. During the second game, the Bison left seven on, while York left nine. The Bison also committed a combined 15 errors that opened the door for Spartan scoring in the double dip.
Gallaudet (3-19, 0-6 CAC) continues its learning experiences in an away doubleheader against Hood College on Friday April 6, with the first pitch going out at 3:30 p.m.
