Bison take Softball Weekend against Chatham

WASHINGTON, D.C.--In a shortened version of the original
Gallaudet Invitational Tournament, the softball team prepared to
face Chatham College in a series of doubleheaders over two days.
Saturday, March 31 saw games 1 and 2 with another two-game stretch
continuing Sunday, April 1.
Saturday's game 1 saw the Bison slip against Chatham, losing 7-4.
Chatham recorded 12 hits to the Bison's four. Chatham's Quimby led
the charge with three hits in four at-bats, and producing four RBI.
First base (Battle) and catcher (Grab) each recorded seven
put-outs, equaled by Bison first base Brittainy Payne. Both teams
combined for 21 put-outs over the game.
Game 2 showed the Bison capitalizing on scoring opportunities
winning 14-6. Keri Schmidt (2B) led the offense with three runs,
two hits and two RBI in two at bats. Pitcher Jenna Owens
recorded five strike-outs in six innings, and allowed eight hits
out of the 31 batters she faced. Catcher Caitlin Mosholder
and 1B Brittainy Payne both worked to combine 10 put-outs (five
apiece) to lead the Bison. Chatham's Battle (1B) took game-high
honors with six put-outs.
The Bison continued their winning ways as they picked up another
win in Sunday's game 1, scoring nine runs to Chatham's four.
Centerfielder Stacy Jones had three hits in four at-bats, while
leftfielder Lori Hower's bat credited her with three RBI and two
hits in four at-bats.
However, in the final game, Chatham prevented the Bison from
taking the four-game series outright, winning by one run, 8-7. The
Bison took home the championship plaque, based on their
four-game total of 34 runs, as Chatham drove in 25.
The Bison (3-7, 0-4 CAC) pick up CAC play against York College in
a home doubleheader on Tuesday, April 3. The first pitch is set for
2:30 pm at Gallaudet's softball field.
