YORK, Pa. – The Gallaudet University men’s cross country team finished 11th overall Saturday at the Coach Achtzehn Classic hosted by York (Pa.) College in the John Rudy Park. The Bison accumulated 294 team points in the meet. There were 97 runners from 11 different teams that made up the field.
Goucher College senior Joey Negreann won the 8K race in 26 minutes and 35 seconds. York won the meet as the Spartans’ first five runners finished second, third, fourth, 10th and 12th to post 31 points. York edged out Franklin & Marshall College who had its top five runners finish fifth, sixth, ninth, 11th and 13th overall for 44 points. St. Mary’s (Md.) College and McDaniel College tied for third place with 112 team points. Goucher College was fifth overall with 129 points followed by Frostburg State University (sixth, 159 points), Penn St.-Altoona (seventh, 198), Marymount (Va.) University (eighth, 233), Penn St.-Harrisburg (ninth, 272) and Lancaster Bible College (tenth, 282). The last three teams to finish in the team standings are from the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Gallaudet sophomore Griffin O’Hara was the first Bison to finish in 63rd place with a time of 33 minutes, 18 seconds. Fellow sophomore Juan Munoz was minutes behind in 81st place (36:14) along with freshman Whitney Plummer (83rd, 36:50). Freshman John Conlin was the fourth Bison to finish in 89th place (38:22) and freshman Travis Waala rounded out the team scoring with his 94th place finish (40:13). Sophomore Juan Villalobos was a sixth Bison runner to compete as he placed 96th (47:02), 21 minutes off the pace of the winner.
GU will next run in the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational being held at Big Spring High School in Newville, Pa., on Saturday, September 24, at 11 a.m.
