THURMONT, MD. – The Gallaudet University men’s cross country team finished eighth among nine teams Saturday in the Hood College Open Meet at Utica Park in Thurmont, Md. The Bison finished with 217 team points.
Hagerstown Community College won the 8K event with 28 team points. Hagerstown freshman Brandon Horning came in first with a time of 27 minutes, 49 seconds. Fellow Hagerstown runner Mike Salguero finished second, only a second behind his teammate with a time of 27 minutes, 50 seconds. Hagerstown’s next three runners finished seventh, eighth, and 10th.
Host Hood College finished second with a team score of 63, followed by Howard Community College and Southern Virginia University, with 96 and 103 points, respectively. Marymount (Va.) University rounded out the top five with 127. Penn St.-Altoona was sixth with 128 points and Mt. Aloysius College was seventh with 196. Baltimore City College was last, finishing behind Gallaudet with 247 points.
Leading the Bison was junior Griffin O’Hara (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who finished 27th out of 83 runners, with a time of 32 minutes, 43 seconds. Sophomore Chris Davis (Stillwater, Okla.) finished 41st in 34 minutes, 53 seconds. Junior Whitney Plummer (Fountain Valley, Calif.) was next for GU in 48th place (38:06), followed by freshmen Juan Munoz (Houston, Texas) (49th, 38:41) and John Conlin (Williams Bay, Wis.) (52nd, 39:25). Junior Juan Villalobos (South Gate, Calif.) was the last Bison, finishing in 57th place in 47 minutes, nine seconds.
The Bison will next compete in the North East Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championships on Saturday, October 29, hosted by SUNY Cobleskill in Cobleskill, N.Y.
