SALISBURY, Md. – The 2010 Gallaudet University men’s cross country team finished ninth overall at the Sea Gull Opener on a picturesque Saturday at Winter Place Park in Salisbury, Md., as the Bison recorded 285 team points.
Slippery Rock University won the race with 47 team points to edge the host Sea Gulls from Salisbury University who had 55 points. Rowan University was third with 75 points. A school needs five runners to complete the race to earn team points and a place in the final standings.
This is the first time in the past two years that Gallaudet’s men’s cross country had at least five runners finish a race to give the Bison team points.
University of District of Columbia runner Hilly Mugun won the race as he finished the 8,000 meter course in 25:43.
Layton Seeber was the first Bison to cross the finish line in 95th place with a time of 38:06. Fellow Bison runner Tyler Crace was on Seeber’s heels and finished with the same time in 96th place.
GU swept the final six spots (98th-103rd place) as these Bison runners completed the race; Sherod Ford with a time of 44:43, Nico Ruiz (47:48), Jocus Houston (47:49), Joshua Sisco (50:39), Ricky Villalobos (51:50) and Jemendrick Parker (54:54).
Gallaudet will next travel to Cobleskill, N.Y., to run in the SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers Invitational on September 11. The meet will represent Gallaudet’s first appearance in the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
