Dr. Andrew Brinks tapped as Head Coach for Bison Cross Country

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Interim Athletic Director Mike Weinstock announced the appointment of Dr. Andrew "Andy" Brinks as the head coach of the Bison Cross Country team, set to return in Fall 2008.

Coach Brinks was a four-year member of the 1977-1981 Bison Cross Country teams while pursuing his undergraduate studies. He coached track at the Maryland School for the Deaf, specializing in long distance events, earning an Eastern States Deaf Athletic Association (ESDAA) championship in the spring of 1988.

Coach Brinks brings the belief that within cross country, the coach's ultimate goal is to give an opportunity for each student-athlete to grow as a whole person, which this individual enjoys so much that it can become an integral part of daily life. He aims to challenge each student-athletee everyday in an effort to tailor each workout to each individual need of the unit and field a competitive team.

Mr. Weinstock commented on Dr. Brinks, saying that he was "very excited about the future of the cross country program, bringing it back to provide even more opportunities for Gallaudet student-athletes to continue ensuring their mental, physical and spiritual well-being outside of the classroom."
