NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Gallaudet University freshman Jack Gray (Atherton, Calif.) competed in the Christopher Newport University Decathlon Qualifier last weekend at Pomoco Stadium.
Gray finished third overall with 5,373 total points out of nine men competing in the decathlon during Saturday and Sunday. Queens University freshman Tobias Kaiser won the two-day event with 5,787 points while Chase Rosenthal, an unattached athlete, was second with 5,610 team points.
Gray won the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:40.34. He was second in the 400-meter dash (52.34), pole vault (3.00 meters) and javelin (38.98 meters). Gray was third in the shot put (10.25 meters) and high jump (1.75 meters) and fourth in the discus throw (26.33 meters).
In the other three events that Gray competed in he finished sixth in the long jump (5.89 meters) and 110-meter hurdles (18.28) and eighth in the 100-meter dash (11.95).
Gray competed in the decathlon several weeks ago at the New Captains Classic hosted by CNU where he totaled 5,134 total points.
