WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University men's track and field program and second-year head coach Byron Moore have officially released its schedule for the 2016 season. Last season, the Bison participated in six outdoor meets and two indoor meets. This season's schedule consists of 12 meets (eight outdoor, four indoor) including two home meets. The increase of meets will provide the Bison student-athletes more opportunities to participate in both indoor and outdoor meets and try and qualify for the NCAA Division III championships.
The program is excited to announce that they will host two meets on Thomas O. Berg Track this spring. The first home meet will be the second annual Gallaudet University Invitational to be held on Saturday, March 26, at 9:30 a.m. Gallaudet will also host the Bison Invitational on Saturday, April 30, at 9:30 a.m., which will also honor the track and field seniors.
Gallaudet will begin its indoor season with a two-day trip to the Darius Dixon Memorial Tournament hosted by Liberty University (Division I) on Jan. 29-30 in Lynchburg, Va.
The month of February will see the Bison travel to Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., for three separate one-day indoor meets. The Crusader Challenge will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, the SU Invitational on Friday, Feb. 12, and the SU Open on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Gallaudet University will begin its outdoor season on Saturday, March 5, at the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet hosted by Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md. The Bison then return home for the Gallaudet University Invitational on March 26.
The outdoor season continues with three away meets in the month of April starting with the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md., on April 2. GU will then travel to the Messiah College Invitational on April 9 before heading south to Newport News, Va., for Christopher Newport University's two-day Captains Classic on April 15-16. Gallaudet caps the month at home on April 30.
GU will have two final chances to qualify individuals for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships by attending two final meets in May. The Bison will participate in the Roanoke/Virginia Tech Twilight Qualifier in Salem, Va., on May 5 before returning to Salisbury, Md., on May 19 for the SU Elite Meet.
If any of Gallaudet's student-athletes qualify for the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, their season would continue in Waverly, Iowa, on May 26-28 at Wartburg College.
