SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A small contingent of Gallaudet University men's and women's track and field athletes raced late Friday night at the Susquehanna University in the annual SU Open inside the SU Field House.
Senior sprinter Vianney Boum Yamb (Silver Spring, Md.) displayed great speed as he finished third in the 60-meter dash as he crossed the finish line in 7.14 seconds. Boum Yamb was just behind Robert Jones from DeSales University and Ian McGinnis from Lebanon Valley College who finished first (7.11) and second (7.13), respectively.
Junior Alex Close (Tallahassee, Fla.) placed 27th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.44. Close's teammate Lorenzo Fuller finished 55th in the same event (2:24.52). Fuller placed 29th in the 400-meter dash (57.63) while freshman Dylan Rich (Brockton, Mass.) finished 49th in the 1-mile run (5:23.34).
On the women's side, freshman runner Jamila Hubbard (Montezuma, Ga.) was 22nd in the 400-meter dash (1:23.45) and 28th in the 200-meter dash (35.21). Fellow freshman Ivy Sahneyah (Tempe, Ariz.) placed 36th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 14:36.57.
This meet wraps up the indoor portion of the 2015 schedule, as the Bison track and field teams will head outdoors in the month of March. GU will travel to Salisbury, Md., on March 7 to participate in the Lloyd Sigler Spring Meet.
